A SEASON OF GROWTH, COMMUNITY, AND TEAMWORK

This year marked a fresh start for Big Walnut High School Varsity Cheer under the new leadership of Coach Anna Laux, who stepped up from coaching the JV squad last year. With a focus on building strong relationships and working toward common goals, the team made impressive strides both in their skills and as a supportive unit.

A significant part of the season’s journey was establishing bonds early on. Attending the UCA camp helped the team set the tone for the year, offering the girls a challenging yet rewarding experience as they prepared for football season. Coach Laux noted that while camp can be stressful, it always brings the team closer together, building resilience and unity from the outset.

One of the season’s standout moments was the unforgettable game against Westerville North, which Big Walnut clinched with a thrilling 32-31 win in overtime. A unique highlight of the game was stunting with Westerville North's cheer team, adding a special moment of sportsmanship to a hard-fought victory.

The "Cheer With an Eagle" event was another highlight of the season. This event emphasized the program’s commitment to fostering school spirit and connection, bringing together cheerleaders, families, and community members.

Coach Laux highlighted the senior leaders, who set an exceptional example of kindness, grace, and dedication. The seniors instilled the importance of building each other up, showing that lasting relationships are founded on support and encouragement. This emphasis on kindness extended throughout the team, with everyone — from coaches to underclassmen — playing a role in creating a positive and understanding atmosphere.

Looking ahead to next season, Coach Laux is eager to build on the progress made this year. Her vision includes establishing clear goals from the start and encouraging the team to try new things and push boundaries together. She believes this mindset will strengthen the team as they prepare to continue Big Walnut’s legacy of excellence and school spirit.

Stay tuned for upcoming volunteer opportunities at the middle school and high school state cheerleading competitions — great chances to support Big Walnut Cheer and celebrate the hard work these athletes bring to every event.
