2024 OCC TEAM CHAMPIONS

2024 BWHS Girls Cross Country

Coach Kevin Lewis led the Big Walnut High School Girls Cross Country team through an exciting and rewarding 2024 season.

With an impressive coaching background that includes 11 years at Big Walnut and a remarkable 35 years at Reynoldsburg, Coach Lewis focused on building a team with a shared goal: win the Ohio Capital Conference (OCC) title and qualify for the state meet. This year, the team accomplished just that, marking the season as one to remember.

The team clinched the OCC Team Championship title, a testament to their hard work and resilience. Leigha Kay emerged as the Individual OCC Champion, and the team went on to qualify for the regional meet, finishing in 9th place overall. Leigha Kay represented Big Walnut at the State Championship meet, showcasing the team's growth and potential on the state’s biggest stage. Recognition for the team's outstanding performances extended beyond these victories, with Leigha Kay, Leighton Coey, and Grace Buskirk earning First Team All-OCC honors.

Looking ahead to 2025, the future is bright for Big Walnut Girls Cross Country. Five of this season's top seven runners will return, bringing valuable experience to next year’s team. In addition, a strong middle school team will be sending up several promising freshmen, adding depth and talent to the roster.

With Coach Lewis at the helm, Big Walnut Girls Cross Country is poised to continue its upward trajectory, with big goals and high hopes for next season.
